Tax Break For Addition

Edith Lank, I read your column every week; I don't  recall reading anything like my question. We are planning on  adding on so my mother (76) can move into our house. Is there  any kind of tax break for doing something like this?

If anything is available it would be a local  program, and you can always inquire of the building or  housing bureau in your town or city hall. I doubt if most  areas have any particular incentives for what you're  planning. In fact, depending on local tax procedures, you  may find your assessment value raised after the additions,  which would result in a higher property tax bill
