Transferring to Texas |
| |
 |
My husband may be transferring to Texas after the first of the year. I am worried about when would be a good time to put our current home up for sale. I know as soon as possible is the easy answer but if we sold before next year we would have no place to live. Apartments are not an option because we have several cats and two small children. What is your suggestion? |

About apartments -- landlords aren't allowed to discriminate on the basis of children in the family, but of course your two cats are not protected by fair housing laws. You say your husband "may" transfer, so I wouldn't suggest doing anything until you know for sure. After that, you can put the house on the market any time, specifiying that the closing can't be until a certain date. Then because you'll have a deadline, be sure your price your home at a level that will attract buyers -- your real estate agent can recommend a listing price for a quick sale. In your situation sometimes the husband goes ahead, stays in an apartment till the house is sold. |
