Succeeding In Real Estate |
| |

Dear Mrs. Lank: I will soon retire from the Army after 24 years and have chosen real estate as my next career. I have been very successful in the Army and want to do the same in the real estate world. Would you please share with me your top five keys to success as an agent? |

Only five--that's a challenge. But okay: 1. You must be honest and ethical. You won't last long otherwise. 2. It helps to be a self-starter and enjoy the unexpected. No one will stand over you giving orders. And if you prefer the security of routine hours, tasks and income, you'll be uncomfortable in real estate. 3. You'll need to handle disappointments easily. Sometimes a transaction you've spent weeks on just falls apart. You have to shrug and move on. 4. You must be a good listener. You can't overwhelm people with chatter and drag them in to view houses. Instead, you'll pay attention to their needs, and function as a match-maker. 5. You need good computer skills. If you had asked for six requirements, the last one --or maybe it should have been the first -- would have been to read, attend seminars and generally study everything that's offered. Good luck to you |
