House Won’t Sell

Edith, How slow do you believe the market is right now? We have had our home up for sale since just after Labor Day and only two people scheduled an appointment the first week. Is the market really that dead at this point in time?

It’s not that slow. Real estate sales do dip a bit after the school year starts, but no matter what else is involved, the answer to the problem is almost always that you’re asking too much for the house. Assuming it has been widely exposed on the market, the buying public has voted that your home isn’t worth what you were hoping to get. Anything will sell if the price is right. If you offered the place for two dollars, it’d sell by this evening. Somewhere between two dollars and the price you’re asking is a figure that will attract potential buyers. If your real estate agent is any good, he or she is probably recommending that you drop the price.
