Dear Edith: I'd love your opinion about discount brokers in general, and in particular.I don't want to just sell on my own because of all of the legal and financial details that busy people can best leave to agents. But do you know whether the $950 I'd be paying for this kind of listing would take care of that hassle for me? It is unclear from their web site.Advertising the house for sale would actually be the easiest thing. I have a very big email list of local people due to a web site I run, and I can do all manner of things on the web to get the word out. I'd just have to make sure that the discount broker could handle all the transactional details or whether some of those would be left to us and our lawyer (who I still have to find).Any advice or thoughts would be extremely appreciated.
There's nothing wrong with discount brokers, as long as you know just what you're agreeing to.They offer what are known as "unbundled" services. To find out what things they've pulled out of that bundle and expect you to do for yourself, contact them and ask for a detailed written explanation.
