Trouble With Mortgage

Dear Ms. Lank, After many years with the same mortgage company, an out-of-state company bought our mortgage and we have had nothing but trouble. The first problem was that they did not include our homeowners insurance in the monthly payments. After many phone calls they finally paid the premium (late).During this they told me that I couldn't just pay it myself. Then I received a notice from our local tax office that they had not paid my taxes. I mailed the bill to them. After many calls and being on hold for a long time, I was told that they would pay it plus the penalty for late payment. When I called to check, it had not been paid.During my next call, they claim they never received my tax bill and might not refund the penalty amount to my escrow.I asked for a name to contact and was given a supervisor's name.I faxed a long letter listing all the dates of my calls and the name of the customer service rep I had spoken to.This has been going on since November and I have never received one return call or any correspondence as I was promised many times. What recourse do I have if I can't afford to refinance to get away from this company?

Ask your local librarian to help with the names and addresses of the office that regulates mortgages in your state and also where that mortgage company is located.Send a letter, as short as possible, stating your complaint. While you're at it, get the address of the president of the mortgage company, and send him or her copies of the letters.
