Trouble After Bankruptcy

Dear Edith: I had a lot of trouble with my mortgage company since my bankruptcy two years ago, extra charges etc., even though I am paying them right along. So I have been trying to refinance just to get away from them. However, I have had four mortgage companies advise me that my current company has refused to provide them with pay history information even though I completed a release for this information. As such, the refinancing cannot proceed.I have requested a current pay history for the past two years and have failed to receive one. What can I do?

Have you asked whether those other lenders would accept your cancelled checks as proof that you’ve been making the payments on time? Worth a try.

Your payment record would appear in the accounting the mortgage company is required to send at least once a year, usually during January. If you haven’t received it, contact your state’s mortgage banking agency.
