Where's the Will?

My mother lives in a house owned my grandfather. in my great grandmothers will, it states that after my grandfather passes, the house goes to his brother. But the problem with that is, we are not exactly sure where that will is. My mother has been paying the taxes on that house for over 12 years. Can she go and obtain the deed to the house and put the house in her name? Or can my grandfather state in his will that the house will go to my mother, can it overwrite the "lost" will? Its just if something does not happen some time soon, when my grandfather passes, my mom will be out on the street. That worries me a great deal. Thanks for your time.

It's likely that the will can be found in the county's public records, and my guess would be that it still will decide eventual ownership of the property.   Beyond that, your mother and your grandfather need to consult a lawyer to find out if they can make any other claim.  I rather doubt it, but I'm not an attorney and I haven't seen any of the documents.
