When are You the Owner? |
| |
 |
When you buy a house in Pennsylvania, as soon as the papers are signed, do you have ownership? Or, do you have to wait until the papers are filed at the courthouse? |
| |
| |
 |
In most states, including Pennsylvania, you receive ownership as soon as a deed is signed and delivered to you. You'd be the owner even if the deed was never entered in the public records. But putting it there, where anyone can see it, protects you. After it's in the records, for instance, the one who sold to you couldn't pretend they still owned it and sell to someone else. |
