Unsecured Debt as Lien |
| |
can a law firm collecting money owed on a unsecured loan put a lien on my house? |

The creditor to whom money is owed can ask the court for a judgment, which can then be entered as a lien against the debtor's real estate and personal property. Depending on state law, it may automatically apply to property within that county, and may then be filed anywhere within the state. It would be done by the one to whom the money is owed, or perhaps by the law firm acting in their behalf. |
