I have two homes and I am expecting to purchase another but waiting for word. I was informed awhile back that if I was going to buy another home it might be a good idea to sign some paper work so that if I ever lost one of my homes they wouldnt go after your other homes you own. I dont remember the type of paper work or who to contact for information on it. Is there such a thing and where can I get it or who do I ask. I have asked the insurance company, as well as real estate agents and still nothing. Can you help?
Thank you, in Colorado |

The insurance company is the wrong place to look for legal advice, and real estate agents must always be careful to avoid the unauthorized practice of law. And frankly, a real estate columnist is not the right person to answer your concern either. I don't know what you were informed or who informed you, and frankly, I don't know what sort of document would exempt a particular house from your potential judgment liens. But if there is such a thing, the person to set it up would be your own attorney. |
