Paying For Security Light |
| |
 |
Dear Ms. Lank, When I purchased my home in 2003, the order to purchase contract indicated that four families had previously agreed to pay (annually) for a security light outdoors that keeps four yards well lit at night.
I’m billed at the end of each year one-fourth of the $120 annual fee.Am I legally obligated to pay if this is not a purchase I agreed to?I just happened to move into a home the previous owners had. |

You may have taken on the obligation to share the cost of that light when you bought the property. It sounds as if you were alerted somewhere along the way, though the legal wording may not have been clear to you. In any event, if I were you I’d just pay the $30. After all, your yard does benefit from the light, and it’s worth something just to keep on cordial terms with the neighbors. |
