Must He Sign a Lease

Hi Edith, before I call an attorney, I thought I might find a simple answer online. I have been leasing a condo on a year to year lease for the past 6 years. I am going to relocate to California and my lease is up in November 07. However I will not be ready to move until February 08. Am I obligated to execute another year lease or is the landlord legally obligated to let it go month to month. I think he's been duping me every year and I've never questioned it because I was planning on staying each time I executed the annual lease.

I don't think you're obligated to execute another lease and I don't think the landlord is obligated to let you remain month-to-month or to offer a six-month lease if he doesn't want to.  You'll have to try negotiating what you want, and if you can't get it, you'll have to leave when your lease is up.
