More Neighbors Trees

Edith, The back of our property has an city easement. Our neighbors back up to the other side. During a recent storm trees on our neighbor's side fell into our yard and damaged our fence and cost my husband and myself many hours of tree clearing. Our neighbors refused to do anything because they said it is the city's property and the city should clear it. They are content to just let the rest of the trees lay on the ground and have not offered to compensate us for the fence or our time. Our neighbors are saying they don't own the property. What is our recourse? Is there any way to handle this without taking legal action? We are really at a loss of what to do.

Turn the whole problem over to your homeowners insurance company. That's what they're there for.
