Hi,
I am trying to learn what are the different ways that a married couple can hold title to a home, and what are the tax consequences to a surviving spouse under those different conditions.

You should get your information from your own real estate lawyer, or one who specializes in estate planning. These things vary from one state to another, and I think I'll have to pass on this one. But I can tell you that a surviving spouse inherits property tax-free, and receives a "stepped-up" cost basis. |
