Dear Ms. Lank, My wife and I started a rental property business in 2004.We have five units and are in the process of putting up two new buildings and improving the parking area.
My son who is in 8th grade has taken an interest and has begun to ask questions about financing, building and how the business operates. He mentioned that he might be interested in going to school to learn about property management and investing. What chools should we be looking at for this type of education? We looked online but most colleges only offer business degrees with a minor in Real Estate.Do you have any suggestions?
If schools offer only a minor in real estate, that's probably because a college education should yield more than just narrow expertise in one field, no matter how interesting a one.I wouldn't worry too much about the matter at this point.See that your son takes a decent amount of math and science, with economics and a foreign language.Spanish would probably be a good idea; so would “shop”.Then wait to see how his interests develop as he goes through high school.
