Wife Gets the House |
| |
 |
My husband is going to quit claim the house to me, as per my divorce decree. If he does that, and I record the quit claim deed, will my taxes double the following year? Or is this not the case in a divorce settlement? |

I assume you're talking about property taxes? I don't see why they'd change after a transfer during a divorce. I suppose there could be some special situation -- perhaps your state offers tax property reductions to veterans, for instance, and your husband is a veteran. You'd lose that benefit. But I think you'd better ask the question of your divorce lawyer, who will know the local tax situation better than I can. |
