Updating a House to Sell

Changing your house is not necessary or required to sell it but if you are looking for top dollar I would highly recommend it.  A great analogy is a car.  If you saw a three year old car in mint condition completely cleaned out and detailed it would be easy to get behind the wheel and make the mental leap to wanting that car to be yours.  If you take the same car unwashed with a scuffed bumper, a full glove compartment and a half finished latte in the cup holder how excited would you be to jump in?  So watch those shows and work with your Realtor to get your house ready for market.  Remember this isn’t an assessment of your personal taste.  It’s a time to strategize about making your house appealing to the widest range of buyers.
