Taxes Not Paid |
| |
 |
I purchase a home at the end of 2006 and funds were collected and noted on the HUD1 statement for the property taxes. In May, I was notified that the taxes for my parcel was never paid and the full amount due, plus a penalty fee was deducted from my mortgage escrow account. What can I do legal to get the title company to refund that money to me? I've been getting the run around for 4 months now. Please help. |

Go to your public library and ask a reference librarian for the names, addresses and phone numbers of the agencies that supervise mortgages and real estate in your state. While you're at it, get the name and address of the president of the title company you used. Then write a short letter (no more than one page) explaining what happened and what you're asking for, to the president of the title company, mentioning that if you do not have a response within one month you'll be sending a complaint to the state agencies. INclude copies of the HUD statement and the letter from the lender about the unpaid taxes. And if you don't hear back within a month, by all means send the whole thing to both agencies at the state capital. Let me know what happens; I'm interested. Good luck. |
