Shelves in Bedrooms |

We are selling our home. We have shelves on our wall in our childrens' rooms. Can we take them with us or are we required to keep them with the house? |

The general rule is that if something is permanently attached it usually becomes a fixture, part of the real estate. But if there's something you want to take with you (usually it's a dining-room chandelier for some reason) you can always state in the listing contract that "seller reserves the right to remove the chandelier...the rose bushes...the shelves.... A much better idea is to replace the chandelier or take down the shelves before showing the property. What they don't see, they can't want. Of course you may have holes in the wall to repair, while you're giving your home that doll-up for the market. |
