Seller Countered Two Offers

Hello. This is a weird problem. We made an offer on a home and that evening got a counteroffer back. We accepted the counteroffer that day about 1:00 at which time our Realtor faxed it to the listing agent and called the listing agent and said we are accepted. The listing agent said that is great and I'll tell the sellers. About an hour later the listing agent called and said ohhpps we meant to put you in a back up position and admitted they countered two offers. Not one time did she mention to my agent that this was a back up offer. So we thought we bought a house and had it yanked away from us by a realtor not playing by the rules. What is my recourse?
