Replacing the Carpet |
| |
 |
Hello. We are selling our family home. The home is in very good condition and very sellable. The only concern is the carpet. The carpet is old and nasty. It certainly needs replacing. My question is, "is it more recommended to replace before showing the house, or allow the new owners to choose their own carpet."? I know each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. What is the opinion of most real estate agents? Thanks. Greg |

It's usually worth replacing the carpet, or even -- if taking it up reveals hardwood -- refinishing the floors. But I haven't seen your carpet so I don't know if just cleaning it would do. And I don't know the price level in your neighborhood so I don't know how much it's worth investing in a doll-up for sale. It won't cost you anything to call a few local brokers and ask their advice. If you do replace the carpet, stick to something inexpensive and in a light neutral color. |
