Proving Ownership |
| |
 |
I received ownership of a property in California following the death of my parents. However, I do not have the original deed. I have quit claims from other family members to me for this property.
This ownership is held in my living trust. Will my heirs have difficulty proving ownership of this property without the original deed? All paperwork has been recorded at the County Recorder's office.
Thank you. |

If you're worried about an "original deed" -- the one by which your parents received ownership? -- that one is probably on file in the Public Records office, where anyone could see it or get a copy, and in any event, it had only one purpose, to transfer ownership to your folks. It has no further use. If you're still worried beyond that, you'll have to take the question to a local attorney. |
