Dear Edith:My son is buying a house and he tells us he has to pay the bank’s lawyer.Doesn’t the bank’s attorney work for the bank? That doesn’t sound right. Is there somewhere he can protest? |

The bank’s attorney is responsible to the bank, looking out for the lender’s interests. So yours is a good question: Why does your son have to pay him or her? And the answer is simply because it’s the bank’s money, it’s their ball and it’s their bat and they make the rules. No use protesting. That’s just how it’s done.
