We are relocating to the SW. We want to apply for VA mortgage, but have been told that mortgage has to be for primary residence. Must we sell our house first in NE to qualify for VA loan? Can it be on the market for us to qualify for VA? WE had planned on selling NE home, but are making trip to SW in an few weeks and if we find a house that we really like, we wanted to put in a purchase offer. The house in the SW will be our primary home. It is the transisiton period that I don't understand. Help!
You can certainly apply for a VA loan on your next home, even if the present one isn't sold. Happens all the time. You simply have to be buying with the intention of making the house your owner-occupied principal residence.
