Lost on an Auction

I found an ad for a home that was going to be auctioned - NOT FORCLOSURE RELATED -
the ad reads

199500 or best reasonable offer , inspections Sat-Sun 12 - 5 - House will be sold Sunday Night to the HIGHEST BIDDER

I inspected the home and placed a bid for 199500 - they guy called me tonight and said - the ower wants 300K and if you would be willing to place a bid closer to that they would be interested otherwise they would not accepet my bid - they also lead me to believe that no one else bid higher than I did - my question is - if there is a minimum bid listed and I make the offer for that amount do they have to accept it.
THANKS
Kaye

Sometimes in an auction there is a "reserve" amount, not always revealed, and if it isn't reached, the seller is not required to sell.  I can't tell if that applies in your situation.  If you really want to pursue this, get a real estate lawyer to investigate for you.
