Ask Heather about: Mortgages, Finance, Taxes or Home Selling?

Inherited the Other Half

i wrote in earlier about a mortgage holder who is deceased.
the situation is that the mortgage holder passed away. his caregiver is on the deed to the property and the property was left to her in a will. she is asking if she has to refinance the existing mortgage, or if she can just continue to pay as a spouse would if her husband died and the wife was not on the mortgage, just the deed. i thought she could assume the mortgage, but she may not qualify for the same rate he had and then could not afford the home. just looking for some advice on what to do.
thanks
colleen

The only way to find the answer is to ask the mortgage company.  Usually they don't call in a mortgage when one owner dies, but I can't be sure.  Sorry I can't be of help.
