We have some wonderful neighborhoods in the hills.  These properties were built to accommodate the terrain but depending on the period and the builder the specifics vary widely.  During your home inspection ask the inspector to explain to you how the property is constructed so you understand what is keeping it from ending up in the flats.  You might also want to hire an engineer to examine the foundation and a geologist to give you an opinion of the integrity of the land it sits on.
