During home inspection, code violations were detected, builder is disputing based on age of home (model home built 2003) - needs hand rail to extend up to last three steps.
Closing of home is scheduled shortly. What is my recourse |

I'd need more details to give you specific advice. Can you still get your mortgage loan with code violations that haven't been fixed? What are the other violations? If it's just a handrail, I wouldn't even bother about it -- it's a simple inexpensive item you could remedy yourself. With whom is the builder arguing? You, your mortgage lender, local code enforcement? If it's just a handrail -- do it yourself. If it's more than that -- talk to a real estate lawyer. If it involves real problems, don't close, don't hand over the money until it's all reseolved. |
