Can They Void the Contract |
| |
 |
My boyfriend and I recently signed a purchase and sales agreement on a house. We put down $3000. The closing is on July 2.
We were just informed by a family member that they are selling their house. It is a house that we very much would like to have. It's $15000 less and the taxes are $1000 less.
My question is, is it possible to get out of this agreement and what, if any, will be the consequences? |

How would you feel if the sellers had just received another offer for $15,000 more and decided to cancel out their contract to sell to you? But listen -- There's a chance the sellers would agree to let you go, perhaps if they could keep your $3,000. If they won't, your own real estate lawyer is the one to advise you, after looking over your contract. When unrelated persons like the two of you are buying a house together, they should definitely be consulting a lawyer in any event, to set up a written agreement heading off possible future problems. |
