Buying from Relatives |
| |
 |
My wife and I are thinking about buying a home from a family member. Their house was on the market and isn't listed anymore. We never looked at the house until after the listing was over and aren't sure if the agent will still get the commission. They reduced the price with the agent when it was still listed but were never told that it would lengthen the contract. The original contract was supposed to be over in the middle of September but now we are told that it is the end of November. They want to sell the house to us as a FSBO but don't want to if the agent will still get the commission. |

I don't see how the listing period could have been extended unless your relatives signed something that said so. Possibly they signed without reading it? At any rate, if they read the contract now they'll find out if they'd owe a commission if they sold to you and if so for how long after the listing expires. Or if you've never been in the house (which sounds improbable) you should be able to buy without any commission any time after the listing expires. |
