If you hire your own agent, you'll have someone legally obligated to put your interests first, help you buy for the lowest possible price, and keep your information confidential. In the end, a buyers' agent is usually paid out of the proceeds of the sale anyhow, just as the sellers' agent is. But you can if you prefer deal directly with the sellers' agent. Just remember that that person is not required to keep your information confidential, so don't tell them anything you wouldn't tell the seller directly (like "I'll pay more if they don't take this offer" for instance.)
