Agent Working Alone

Can a Real Estate Agent work independently without joining any broker or any firm?

In most states, a licensed broker can set up in business individually, and charge the public for real estate services.  A licensed salesperson, though, may not operate alone or receive money from clients, but must be associated with a supervising broker.
