Agent Helping Friend |

Can a licensed real estate agent help a friend sell a house? on sell by owner deal. without pay?
What about a family member? |

There's no requirement that an agent be paid a commission, and a licensed agent is certainly free to help friends or family without charging anything. Other parties should be made aware, though, that a licensed agent may be involved in the negotiation.
The agent's managing broker should be told what's going on, because the company is responsible for the agent's real estate activities. If the property is to be covered by a written listing contract, so that it can be entered in a local multiple listing system, then the managing broker might -- or might not -- set some commission requirements. That's because it's the company, not the individual agent, that makes the contract and belongs to the MLS.
