My daughter, is living in my ex-wife's house. My ex does not live there, has no interest, but she still holds title to the house & mortgage. My daughter is paying the mortgage payments for ex, as rent for living there. How can my daughter get on the house deed, without spending too much much money. House is in Pittsburgh, PA...Does she need to consult a lawyer, or is there some form she can file with the state. Ex is willing to add daughter to the deed, but does not know how to do as well....Any advise will be appreciated.

It's a simple matter for your ex to sign a deed making your daughter the new owner. Any lawyer can help with the simple paperwork and it shouldn't be expensive. The problem comes with the mortgage. Before anything is done, the mortgage company should be consulted. They might require the mortgage to be paid off if there's a change in ownership -- or they might not, for a family transaction. The might let it remain on the property. Or else if she is qualified, your daughter could get her own new mortgage and pay off the old one anyhow. |
