How Much Commission

How much should a real estate company make selling a house? recently I sold my mothers house for $749,000.00. The buyers company took $20,000.00, my realtor wants $8,000.00, and she's a family friend! This seems horrendous to me!!

It looks to me as if the selling broker got a bit more than 4 percent of the sale price.  That's more generous than usual, and is probably due to your friend, when she listed your property, offering an unusually generous  "split" to other offices, to motivate other agents to show your property.
The listing contract should state the total amount of commission due, and the time to object was at the beginning, before you signed it, before the listing agent had spent time and advertising money on the property.  Your lister is asking about one percent, which strikes me as a modest fee.
