Helped the Inlaws |
| |
 |
My husband and I have taken on the task of helping my in laws property. We took on the role as a realtor and showed the property to prespective buyers and spent the money for advertisement. In return my in-laws offer to pay us the same commission that a realtor would receive. Is it legal to do this without a license? |

It is illegal for them to pay any unlicensed person for real estate services, and illegal for you to accept anything. On the other hand, of course, at Christmas time each of your your inlaws could give each of you up to $12,000 as a present with no federal gift taxes due. |
